How to protect and unprotect Excel sheets with a password

Steps

Protect an Excel sheet with a password

  1. Go to File > Info via the menu bar.
  2. Click on the Protect Workbook box and choose Protect Current Sheet. A dialog box opens up.
  3. Enter a Password to unprotect sheet in the “Protect Sheet” dialog box and click OK.
  4. Reenter the password in the Confirm Password dialog box and click OK.

Unprotect an Excel sheet

  1. Go to File > Info via the menu bar.
  2. Click on the Protect Workbook box and choose Protect Current Sheet or click on the link “Unprotect Sheet”. A dialog box opens up.
  3. Enter the password in the Unprotect Sheet dialog box and click OK.
  4. Optional: To protect the sheet again, follow the above steps.
